  *** Edible and delicious

Yellow, fleshy mushroom. Ready for the pan without cooking.

Pileus The cap is 312 cm wide, egg-yellow, fading with age, smooth, surface quite flat at first, later form of the fruit body vase- to funnel-shaped, sturdy especially when young, margin wavy and irregularly lobed in age. The flesh is thick and firm, whitish yellow.

Hymenophore The ridge-like gills are irregularly forked, concolorous with the cap or somewhat paler, decurrent running almost all the way down the stem.

Stipe The stem tapers down seamlessly from the cap, narrowing at base.

Odour and taste The smell is pleasant, fruity and the taste is mild, sometimes a little bitter.

Habitat It is found in all kinds of woods, typically in thin forests with lots of daylight.  It often grows in clusters and is quite common in Finland and Sweden.

NB. The Yellow Chanterelle is easy to recognize and only rarely attacked by larvae.
