  ** Edible and good

Orange cup-like mushroom. Ready for the pan without cooking.

Pileus The fruiting body is 110 cm in diameter, cupulate, forming irregular cups which flatten in age, margin wavy. The context is thin, brittle. The inside of the cup (= hymenial surface) is smooth and bright orange coloured, the external surface being lighter yellow-orange with white fine hairs on it. Turns darker, more brown-orange when old.

Hymenophore The spore layer is inside the cup.

  Stipe Sessile (stemless).

Odour and taste Both the smell and the taste are very mild.

Habitat The Orange Peel Fungus is typical along the roads, trails and banks, on bare soil. Despite of its small size and thin context, it is worth while gathering as it usually grows in clusters and the taste is good. And what a beauty it is!

NB. There are some other red or red-orange cup-like fungi which are inedible.
