| Pileus | The cap is 10–15 cm broad, the surface smooth, cracking in dry weather, cream coloured or brown yellowish white, egg-shaped when young, convex and whitening in age. | |
| Lamellae | The gills are close, white or pale brown reddish as young and turn blackish brown when get older. | |
| Stipe | The stem is relatively thin and it has a double skirt-like ring. The flesh is white and firm. | |
| Odour and taste | Anise smell when fresh. | |
| Habitat | The Horse Mushroom grows in grassy areas, on lawns and in parks and gardens. Do not pick them near traffic as they gather up poisonous heavy metals. | |
| NB. | Be sure to distinguish it from Amanita virosa – Destroying Angel which is also a white mushroom but deadly poisonous, one of the most toxic of all known toadstools. | |
